One of the most desirable neighborhoods in Montpelier is The Meadow. (Sometimes people call it The Meadows, plural, which is also fine!) Roughly speaking, it’s the neighborhood just north of downtown. Summer Street, Winter Street, Spring Street, Pearl Street, Vine Street, and the part of Elm Street closest to downtown would all be considered The Meadow. And no, you’re not the only person who has wondered why there’s no Fall Street or Autumn Street.

Another reason The Meadow neighborhood is desirable is that the houses in the neighborhood just feel…nice. Most of the buildings are single family homes, and most are owner occupied. They were built over time, but it’s safe to say that most of the homes were built before 1900. A quick scan of the Montpelier town records shows that a lot of the homes were built between 1850 and 1900.
For homes to be 150 years old (or older) and still be in good condition suggests that these homes were built well and have been taken care of over the years.. That’s another reason that people like The Meadow neighborhood. There’s this cool New England residential vibe, with quality homes, on quiet streets.
